Described in Opera magazine as "one of the most promising operatic singers to have emerged from the RNCM in recent years", soprano Anna Ryberg was born in Sweden but moved to Australia with her family at a young age, beginning her musical studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
After completing a Bachelor of Music Education she continued her studies concentrating on performance, and completed an additional Performance Diploma graduating with honours in 1995. Later that year, at the Australian Marianne Mathy Singing Competition, Anna won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England to study opera. Whilst in Manchester she performes the roles of Mimi La Boheme and Susanna Le nozze di Figaro to huge critical and audience acclaim.
In 2000 Anna graduated from the RNCM having been awarded that institution's Curtis Gold Medal and embarked on a busy freelance career in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Anna has performed a wide range of repertoire throughout Europe. She was Associate Artist of the Welsh National opera in 2003-04, appearing in The Cunning Little Vixen and Hansel and Gretal. Other roles include Polinessa Radamisto in Salamanca, Bilbao and at the Händel Festspiel in Halle; Susanna and Barbarina Le Nozze di Figaro for Opera North and the Nederlands Opera; Contessa Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro for Opera Rouen; Pamina Die Zauberflöte with the academy of the Aix-en-Provence festival; Lauretta in Puccini´s Gianni Schicchi in Luxembourg; Iole in Händel´s Hercules for the Athens Festival; Vivetta in the London premiere of Cilea´s L'arlesiana for Opera Holland Park; and the title role in Händel's Semele in Sydney, Australia.
Her performances as Susanna in Figaro for Opera Holland Park in 1999 were recognised with that year's American Express/OHP Award.
Anna has also enjoyed wide-ranging success on the concert and recital platform, having performed in every major concert venue in the United Kingdom - including the Royal Albert Hall, London - and presented solo Lieder recitals at the Wigmore Hall, London, and Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
Anna joined the ensemble of the Oper Frankfurt in August 2004. Her roles include Zerlina Don Giovanni, Contessa Folleville IlViaggio al Reims, Oscar Un ballo in maschera, Poppea Agrippina, Virtu and Drusilla Incoronazione di Poppea, Servilia La clemenza di Tito.
Recent recordings include the title role in Semele for ABC Classics.
Future plans include Adina L´elisir d´amore for Opera North in Leeds, England.
Whilst at the RNCM Anna was awarded a scholarship by the Peter Moores foundation, to whom she is grateful for their help and support.
